Release Notes - 14th December 2009
These are the release notes for another round of updates to the Insight platform. As always if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.
Improvements to Attendance recording
We've made a few changes to improve the recording and reporting of Attendance:
- Reason codes: When someone is absent, it's often useful to be able to record the reason for their absence. You can now configure a drop-down which appears next to the radio buttons for recording attendance. To get started, go to the Settings tab and under the Users section choose 'Attendance Reasons'. Here you can enter your set of reason codes (and also specify whether the person taking the register can record their own reasons). While we were at it we went crazy and let you set reasons for attending as well - we're sure someone will find a use for it!
- PDF reports for subgroups: When producing PDF reports of attendance in your groups, you can now opt to collate all the reports for subgroups. This might be useful, for example, if you want to see the attendance for all your home groups in a single report.
- Improved paging: If you've got a large register containing lots of events, they used to disappear off the edge of the page. Now you can say how many columns (events) you want to appear on each page and we'll just keep adding pages until all your columns fit on. Clever.
New Tag List Note-type
We've added another note type that allows you to define a list of tags. You can use this in article list components, for example, to display a list of related articles.
Tax by region
In the shop, you can now set tax rates based on the region that the order is shipping to. This will be particularly useful for our US customers who have to set different tax rates for different States, but any of our UK customers who ship abroad will see the benefit too - as your overseas customers may not need to pay VAT.
To get started, go to the Settings area, and under 'E-Commerce' select 'Tax'. Here you can define your tax codes and regions.
US States dropdown
Wherever a United States address is entered into the system, a drop down appears to allow selection of the appropriate State. This will help to ensure the correctness and consistency of addresses on your site.
Photos in Query results
When you run a query for users, their photos can now be displayed in the results and in PDF exports. This can help quickly prompt you who that person is whose name you know but you can't quite place...! Obviously, for this feature to be useful you will have to encourage your users to upload their photos, or do it on their behalf!
To use this feature, just run a query for users in the normal way, then when you have your results, hit the 'Change Columns' button and add 'Photo' from the 'Personal Details' section.
Other enhancements and bug fixes
- The 'more details' group link was being lost when organisations were saved. This is now fixed.
- Financial Reports and some other reports were not showing a scroll bar in IE8. Scrolling is now restored.
- In the Query wizard, when the 'Full Address' field was added to query results, there was an error in the PDF export. This is fixed.
- Uploading of family photos was broken in the Web Office and in My Area. These are both now fixed.
- For sites with white text, the Web Office log-in pop was displaying white text on a white background. For those of you who can't read invisible text, we've fixed this by giving this log-in box the same styling as the standard user log-in box.
- We've added a note when a card is added to a Wallet to explain that £1 is debited and immediately refunded to authorise the card.
- We've made some improvements to the checks that we do for users of unsupported browsers in the Web Office, and updated our links to recommended browsers.
- We've done some work to speed up the display of the task tree a little, and to make sure the notification icons are more reliably displayed.
- The 'Change Display Order' task was appearing twice in media folders on the Media tab. Since you can never have too much of a good thing, you only get it once now.
- The 'direct item purchase' link wasn't working when it was used for a single item. It's working now.
- While excitedly adding new Financial Reports in the last release, we broke the Payment Receivables report. Normal service is now resumed.
- In Internet Explorer, when registering on a site, the 'Register' button would move about because the 'Please confirm your password' text would appear and disppear and this sometimes meant that two clicks were required to hit the 'Register' button. We've fixed this so that the 'Please confirm your password' text only appears if the second time the password was entered didn't match the first, and so the 'Register' button stays in the same place.
- Adding files to a recording failed if you had multiple consecutive spaces in the filename. This has been puzzling us for a while, but we've figured out what was happening and it's all working fine now.
- We've tightened up the permissions on which user details you can access from rotas.
