Release Notes - 1st October

These are the release notes for another round of updates to the Insight platform. As always if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.

Headline Enhancement

• Note Driven Layouts
  Do you struggle from having to create lots of layout templates to achieve more complex designs, making it difficult to maintain your site look? Note driven layouts will simplify the number of layouts required.
  
  Currently if you wish to display a different graphic on every area of your site, and that image needs to be displayed somewhere in your layout outside of article content area - e.g. a banner graphic, then you can only achieve this by creating a layout for every area. This is time consuming to setup but also makes maintaining your layouts difficult because if you want to make a small change to one then you need to make the same modification to all of them.
  
  This is where note driven layouts come in because they allow one template to be created and then the appropriate item - e.g. image - to be displayed based on the properties of the current entity - e.g. group, article, shop item. This works like the article component where the group homepage article can be displayed meaning you don't have to create a new layout for each group to display a different article. 
  
  In this release we've done a lot of the ground work for this feature which you'll see the fruit of in the next release. For now, the note driven layouts feature can be used on shop items. Here are some examples of how it could be used in the shop right now:

  • Display an article that includes more information about the author e.g.photo, short biography, into the shop item detail display.
  • Add an image - e.g.'Top 10 seller' - to items that you specify, through an 'image link' note. This is an example of how the shop item listing can display individual items differently, which wasn't previously possible.

   

Other enhancements and bug fixes

• More performance enhancements.
• 'Purchase items from shop' link type has been enhanced to allow any number of different items to be added to a basket simultaneously. It has also been enhanced to allow digital singles to be added, and items with product options.
• Fixed preview article error that occurred on unsaved articles.
• Made image upload interface consistent across all browsers.
• Fixed adding users to same family.
• Users without addresses are now correctly displayed in the address book.
• Staff roles are now listed in the correct order according to the role display order set.
