Release Notes - 2nd/4th September 2009
These are the release notes for another round of updates to the Insight platform. As always if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.
Headline Enhancements
-
Page titles and meta-tags
The 'page title' is what you see at the very top of your browser, and is used by search engines such as Google. Meta-tags are pieces of information that are hidden on your page to provide extra details to search engines that you may not necessarily want your site visitors to see on the page itself.
Up until now, the page titles have been set according to a hard-coded format and you could only set your meta-tags on a site-wide basis. That all changes with this release.
You can set your site-wide defaults for both page titles and meta-tags in the 'Settings' area located within the 'General' category items. You can also specify what the title and meta-tags should be on individual groups and shop sections, as well as for the articles or items within the groups or sections (this can be done by selecting a new task under the 'Adavanced' settings on the 'Summary' tab of groups or under the 'Advanced' tab on a shop category) .
Or, where you want something really custom, you can set the title and meta-tags on the individual items or articles themselves.
The interface users placeholders much like mail-merge fields which allow you to specify data such as site name, article title, article author etc.
- Wallet items in the shop
Logged-in 'store customers' can now select from previously used credit cards and addresses from their 'wallet' or add new ones each time a new order is placed.
This behavior is turned off by default, so the checkout payment process will be unchanged until you enable the feature. This setting can be enabled on the 'Shop Settings' page located within the 'E-commerce' section of the 'Settings' area of the Web Office.
Note that, as before, we do not store any real credit card numbers and so your customers' data is completely secure.
Enhancements and bug fixes
- Logged-in 'shop customers' can also now add multiple delivery addresses which are stored for future use within the shop checkout.
- Duplicate organisations in your directories can now be merged in the same way as duplicate users.
- We've continued our work to unify our address controls across the system, so that that the interface for address entry is consistent throughout the platform.
- Added source selection options to the Forums component so a specific group can now be selected, enabling you to display forum posts from a specific area of your site to feature on your frontpage.
- We've added options to the Media list component to include media from 'media folders' and 'subgroups'.
- Fixed a bug which was incorrectly restricting the visibility to the public of the event contact's address details.
- There are some additional options on the advanced group and shop section navigation components.
- There was an error when sending rota emails containing duplicate merge fields. This has now been fixed.
- We've continued to make performance improvements and optimisations 'behind the scenes'.
