Release Notes - 2nd July 2009
These are the release notes for another round of great updates to the Insight platform. As always if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.
Headline Enhancements
-
Automatic approval of edits to payment group registrations
Whenever users or administrators edited payment group registrations, there was always a manual job to do in order to deal with past receivables, and re-assign payments to receivables on the new registration that was created by the edit. Not any more!
We've added some powerful new options which allow you to specify default options on payment schemes for how to deal with receivables on the old registration, what receivables to create on the new registration, and whether to re-assign payments from the old registration to the new. You'll find all these options in the 'Payment Schemes' tab of the payment group settings area, with extra help just a click away on each of the different options.
These changes mean that you can now opt for user edits to registrations to be auto-approved. Just look for the check box on the 'Confirmation' tab of the payment group settings area.
Of course, there are always those special cases, so administrators approving edits in the Web Office can override any of the default options.
For more details on these new payment group configuration options see Changes to approving payment group registrations.
-
Deferred approval and re-activation of payment group registrations
Sometimes you might want to approve a new registration, or approve an edit to a registration, on a given day in the future, rather than immediately. For example, one of your donors might want their donation to be paid each month on a particular day after their salary has been paid. When you're approving a registration, we've now given you the option to say when the registration should be approved - now, or on a fixed date or, for approval of edits, on the date that the next payment is due.
-
Overhaul of group membership management
In certain circumstances, group memberships weren't properly revoked when options or registrations had expired, or been suspended or cancelled. We've overhauled this whole area so that it now works much more robustly and reliably. We've improved the display in the option groups, so that you can now see if an option has expired before the overall registration has expired.
In addition, we're now only creating receivables for payment schemes that are in use, so you will no longer see zero-valued receivables (except where you have explicitly set the cost on a payment scheme to be zero).
-
Administrator proxy ordering in the shop
We've added a big new feature in the shop. Administrators can now place orders on behalf of existing customers, or for new customers. You will find this invaluable if you take orders over the telephone or by post, and want to enter them into the Insight system.
To get started using this feature, look for the new task at the bottom of the orders page - 'Create a new order for a customer'. To add items to a customer's order, you can either enter them directly via the product code, or you can pick them using the standard Web Office item browser. The checkout process is then much the same as your customers would see if they were placing the order themselves through your web site.
Other enhancements and bug fixes
- Throughout the payment group settings area, there are now warnings if you attempt to move away from a tab when you have changes that haven't been saved.
- Our new support site - ShareInsight - is now shown as the splash screen for all users when logging in to the Web Office.
