Change a user's password?
You can't specify what a user's password will be but you can reset a password for the user. They can then login and change it to what they require. The user can also reset their own password by following the forgotton password link on the login pop-up box.
Resetting a user's password
To reset a password for someone else you will need to posess the 'Edit Member's details' permission and you'll need to have higher permissions that the user whoose password you are resetting. If you meet these requirements you can reset somene's password as follows:
- Enter the Web Office
- Open the user record using one of the following methods:
- Select the Quickfind search function located in the bottom-left corner of the Web Office. Begin to enter the name of the user you wish to edit in the person/organisation box and a list of users who match the entered name will be displayed. Select one so their name appears in the box and click Find to display the contact record.
- Select the
central contact folder or other group folder you know the user belongs to and the work pane will refresh to display this group. Select the members tab to display the current list of people in this group. Finally click on one of the names to display the contact record.
No window has opened displaying the user's contact details? This is most likely because your browser has blocked the pop-up window from opening. See How do I stop pop-up windows from being blocked? for details on how to disable the pop-up window blocker in your browser.

Scroll to the bottom of the contact record and select the reset this person's password task.

Once you've confirmed your request to reset the password then if the user's record contains an email address they'll receive an email containing a random password. The template for this email is the password reset template which cab be changed under Settings->Email->Site Registration and a login. If the user doesn't ahve an email addrress then the user's password wil appear on screen temporarily.

| | | | Paul Tostevin (www.jubilee-church.co.uk) | 28/10/2010 09:20 | In the Users record remove the invalid email address and then save the change (Important to do this before resetting the password) - then reset the password - the new password is shown under Tasks. If the user has a new email address you can replace the invalid one with the new address - save the change so that when you reset the password the new password is sent to the new address.
